Sea Point Recycling Drop Off Facility opens Wednesday, 1 December 2010

Authors

The Solid Waste Department is proud to be opening its Sea Point Tramway Road Recycling Drop Off Facility on Wednesday, 1 December 2010. This will be the first City drop off site to be 100% dedicated to recycling.

Following Mayco’s resolution to adopt the Integrated Waste Management Policy in 2006, a need was identified for well controlled and secure recycling drop-off facilities in the city bowl and surrounding areas. Such facilities needed to provide the public with an area where clean recyclable items ONLY, such as glass, plastic, paper, cardboard and cans, could be dropped off at no charge. The Sea Point Recycling Drop Off Facility meets this criteria, and is the first of its kind to open its doors.

For residents who are currently not participating in the City’s “Think Twice” programme, the Sea Point Recycling Drop Off provides an opportunity to be part of the recycling community. All recyclables from the waste stream will be recovered and sold or donated into the manufacturing stream for re-use. If recyclables are already collected by Waste Plan (Camps Bay and surrounds), or Mandla Recycling (flats and businesses in the Sea Point and surrounding areas), you are urged to keep supporting these existing Think Twice contracts. The City strongly encourages residents in the city bowl and Atlantic Seaboard area who do not benefit from a recycling service to visit the Sea Point Recycling Facility where recyclers are waiting to put recyclables to good use. The site is easy to find, as the aerial photograph and map show.

    Directions to the site
From Sea Point, travel down Beach Road from Green Point/Sea Point towards Bantry Bay. Turn left into Queens Road at the end of Beach Road and proceed to the Queens Road Circle. At the circle turn left into Regent St, as if you are turning back towards Sea Point. After the BP Service Station on your left, you will get to Super-Spar and Woolworths Foods on your left. Turn right opposite the Super-Spar into Tramway Road. Travel up to the top of Tramway Road – you will see a sign at the top of Tramway Road saying “The Luxury of Urban Estate Living”. Just before you get to that sign, turn left into the Drop off Site opposite Tafelburg Remedial School. Drive into the drop off site – there is parking inside.
